The gantry construction is made up of a very solid and sturdy aluminum casting for both stator and rotor. Moreover, the gantry rotate bearing and rotate drive components are integrated in a way to ensure the scanner's rigidness and stability. During rotation, the stator and rotor has minimum vibration, deformation and jitter in all directions. Therefore, the stability of the scanner allows the X-Ray tube focal spot to be accurately aligned to the center of the detector which accurately locates the X-Ray beam distribution across the detector to guarantee the image quality.

Zero Deformation: Virtually no deformation is occurring with the Detector Channels during rotation due to the rigidity of the rotor. The stability of the detector subsystem allows for stable, consistent and accurate image generation.

Zero Vibration: The vibration measured at a rotational speed of 0.5 s/360°, is less than 0.3 mm/s. This is achieved by the rigidity of the stator and rotor designs.

YSCT-16 is equipped with a custom made Slip Ring manufactured by MOOG USA for the transmission of power, control signals and data. MOOG is a global company that specializes in designing and manufacturing precision slip rings. MOOG is the world's leader in slip ring manufacturing and offers more than 10,000 slip ring designs that are used in medical equipment ranging from large CT Scanners to smaller camera systems as well as rugged space and aircraft vehicles.

YSCT-16 uses a highly precision gantry rotary bearing that is manufactured by Franke GmbH located in Germany. Franke bearing designs are able to meet the rigorous requirements of military and aerospace applications.

Zero Tolerance: The design and integration of the rotate bearing, rotor casting and the rotor motor control subsystem are designed to have very tight tolerances and very smooth and repeatable operation that allows the system to produce superb image quality.

Zero Jitter: The rotate bearing implements a preload design that effectively eliminates any axial and radial run outs which effectively eliminates any jitter or vibrations.

The system has multiple temperature sensors that are monitored in real time to ensure that the gantry and detector cooling is working within the specified ranges and to eliminate any possible image artifacts that would be caused by having an unstable operating temperature or temperature drift.

YSCT-16 System controls were designed and packaged to be in a single location on the gantry. This optimizes the cooling that is required for the components and provides a platform for meeting all of the shielding requirements for EMC. In addition the system controls packaging design allows for minimum space being needed for maintenance.

YSCT-16 has the fastest scanning speed among all the 16-slice CT systems with a scan speed of 0.5 s/360°. This not only gives you quicker patient throughput but also reduces any motion artifacts that would be due to any respiratory motion.


1. HV Generator


The YSCT-16 High Voltage Generator is manufactured by Spellman High Voltage Electronics Corporation. Spellman is the world's leader and producer of high voltage power supplies and X-Ray generators.

YSCT-16 has a 50 kW High Voltage Generator which can produce a maximum current of 420 mA and a maximum voltage of 140 kV. This meets the scanning requirements for larger patients. The minimum current is 10 mA which can be used for low dose scans when scanning children or regular health check-up. Tube voltage: 80 kV, 100 kV, 120 kV, 140 kV.

2. Tube

YSCT-16 uses an X-Ray tube that is manufactured by DUNLEE, USA. The X-ray tube is a very mature design and widely used which brings stability and long tube life. The tube has an anode heat storage of 5.3 MHU and an anode a cooling rate of 815 KHU/min which allows longer scan times and high patient throughput. The tube current range is 10~420 mA. The tube voltage range is 80~140 kV. The tube focal spot sizes are 0.7*1.2 mm for the small and 1.2*1.2 mm for the large.


3. Detector

The detector module design is non-isometric which consists of 16 slices by 24 rows. A detector row consists of 912 channels by 24 rows for a total of 21888 channels for the entire detector.

The detector design fully meets all of the EMC/EMI shielding requirements. The detector is also designed to prevent any light leaks. Meeting these requirements reduces the risk of having any noise that could introduce image artifacts. The detector mechanical design is very precise and robust and will ensure reliability during high-speed rotations of the gantry.


The detector design uses an optimized ultra-high speed rare earth ceramic scintillating material that increases the quantum efficiency detection. The material also has a very quick decay time and is less susceptible to radiation damage. This design ensures longer life and stability of the detector and can produce good image quality at a lower dose.

The unique compact ASIC chip allows the detector module to have a smaller overall package size. The ASIC has lower electronic noise, high sampling rates and has better detection performance at low contrast levels.

An innovative anti-scatter grid (ASG) with optimized tungsten plates are used in the YSCT16 system. The ASG design fully meets the Scatter to Primary Ratio(SPR). The ASG design implements a special process to maintain its stability and interface to the detector modules.

The detector is segregated from the heat generating sources in the gantry to reduce any temperature variations that the detector would be exposed to. This greatly improves the thermal stability and operating environment for the detector.

YSCT16 produces excellent image quality. Measuring the systems image quality using the industry standard CT CATPHAN Phantom the contrast resolution is 21.8 lp/cm at MTF 0%, 14 lp/cm at MTF 10% and a low contrast resolution of 3mm at 0.3%.

Beam hardening artifact correction software

Beam hardening correction technology is able to reduce the artifacts in the transition region between the bone and the soft tissue. It is also suitable for pelvis scanning.

Posterior cranial fossa optimization

Equipped with the abundant reconstruction filter functions, different reconstruction methods are applied to different scanning positions in order to gain high quality images.

Metal artifacts correction

This technology can reduce the artifacts impact on the organizational structure, thus to show the corresponding organizational structure more clearly, and accurately display the anatomical relationship between the internal metal and the corresponding organizational structure.

Motion correction reduces motion artifact

Advanced artifact suppression technology is applied to chest and abdomen scanning, thus to reduce the artifact caused by the patient voluntary or involuntary motion. The strip artifact suppression technology is applied to shoulder joint and hip joint scanning to reduce the artifacts in these regions.

Pediatric protocol

Pediatric patient body parts are smaller and more sensitive than adults. Specialized scanning protocols have been developed to minimize the radiation dose to the smaller and more sensitive pediatric patients.
